Got it in today...
Took it out in the backyard and looking at the field behind our house at dusk.
Compared it into darkness against the following scopes and I am shocked at how well it performed:

Viper 2-7 C3
S&B Zenith 1.5-6x42 Flashdot #9
Accupoint 3-9x40 mildot / green dot

All I was really doing was seeing how it stacked up against the others as darkness fell and observing some oak trees at 90 yards and how well I could see the trunk and branches into to the point they were no longer visible with the naked eye.

It had better glass than the Viper, instantly noticeable and the reticle was much bolder.
Clear winner: Firedot, hands down

OK.. the shocker was how well it held it's own against the Accupoint and S&B
Not talking about how stunningly clear and high resolution the S&B is, but how, the Firedot would have let me take a shot that the S&B and Accupoint would have and how comparably bright it was..

Hard to to believe
The dot was very small and dimly lit, as dim as the Accupoint and as small, very precise aiming point
The #4 was done well, not TOO thick or close together like some I have seen

I did not test in bright light to see how the daylight visible setting is but it is clearly MUCH brighter than the night time setting.

I am usually disappointed with stuff, sometimes impressed and almost never have my expectations far exceeded...

I will test field of view on 2x, eye relief consistency, resolution, etc.. and report back

I put it close to the Viper 2-7 for a size comparison

Thanks for posting.  Any chance you could get a picture of the reticle in day and night settings?

Looks good.  What mount are you using?  What is the mounting distance on the scope (max distance rings can be apart)?

Very encouraging... can you please give info on:

At 2x can two eye open shooting be done w/o too much trouble?

Please let us know how it the scope's dot works well in daylight.

And

Does Leupold guarantee a scope illumination for life too?

Mucho Gracias!

will check the warranty, but I believe so
will check daylight visibility

I haven't shot it yet but I shoot everything both eyes open and I didn't seem to have any issues engaging targets at 10-20 yards in my backyard

I wouldn't use it for CQB obviously, but for hunting (and I try to never shoot at running animals) it should be fine

The Xbolt is a 308 micro hunter, slick little gun

Trees at 200 yards, scope at 2x
this was right at daybeak with the sun just to the left of the trees
Lots of light coming in my direction and the dot is set to max

Same but with scope at 7x

Fence at 10 yards, scope at 10x
dot set to max

That's great to hear!  Looks like a very nice scope!

I really like the size of the dot and the reticle in general.

Overall, how would you rate resolution against the Zenith?

Admittedly, I am not the sharpest ball in the drawer; how did you get a 2-7X scope to 10X magnification?

I might be willing to buy a Leupold 2-7X that goes to 10X.

"This one goes to 11."

Hmmmm.....this new Firedot 2-7x33 for $460 or the closeout Euro Diamond 1.5-6x40 for $499.

I am strongly considering an illuminated dot scope and it's a tough call between these two.

Thoughts?

had one of those, the ill ret failed on me twice, and on another Burris

Bill Wilson reported failures as well and has been testing a Firedot with no failures

In all honesty, probably a little too early to tell on reliability but I am quite impressed thus far

Will take it hunting next weekend

How does Firedot's glass rates compared with Mark AR and VX3 ?

What I've read is that Mark AR's is comparable to VXII (?).
