If we stay with 17-22 caliber and pick a threesome for covering the gamut of varmint shooting, what three do you feel have the best coverage? I would choose the 204 - 22-250 - and 22 middlestead as my choices. The 204 will pretty much take the place of the 223 for me and cover all smaller weight bullet applications. Efficient and accurate with slower barrel heating than the larger bores. The 22-250 covers the 50-55 grain area and gives the added range and windbucking for long coyote and chuck shots. The middlestead or really the 22-6mm (TTH) will with a fast twist give the really long range "reach out and touch" potential of 60-90grain bullets with ample velocity to push em'. I'm sure most will pick the 223 for various reasons and I like the caliber a lot but the 204 probably just fits my needs a little better. What say you......

.221 fireball, for heavy production runs, 204 for those that think about escaping, and .223AI or 222 mag with 1x7 twist for 75 thru 85 gr up thru small deer.

I'd go with .204, .22-250, and .223.  Since .204 will cover everything the .223 will plus some, the reason I include the .223 is simply the excellent brass availability and therefore relatively lower cost of reloading, enabling you to shoot it more.
