I'm looking for the best scope for the money for a new varmint rig.  I think either a weaver v-24 or a Leupold VX-II 6-18 w/o target knobs.  Is the Leup really worth the extra money, as both already cost more than the rifle.  Thanks.

Don't leave this guy out......

I checked this scope out today at Bass Pro Shop and though it was very nice, for the money.

Alright, I've decided these may be a bit pricey for right now.  I am thinking of using a simmons scope as a cheap step up until I can afford something better, probably the weaver w/ Mil Dot or the Leupy w/ varmint plex.  I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with simmons scopes, particularly this one http://www.(competitor)ss.com/product.cfm?contentID=productDetail &ammoRecID=&brand=&category=&prodID=SN800966  or this http://www.(competitor)ss.com/product.cfm?contentID=productDetail &ammoRecID=&brand=&category=&prodID=SN800964 .  I realize they aren't great, but they are based on the target / varmint scopes which seem popular.  I know the Whitetail Classic is fairly well recommended as a basic scope on this forum, so maybe I'll just try to find one of them.  Will Simmons as a rule hold Point of Impact and have the same zero through the adjustment scale?  My only experience is with a 3-9 deer field, but I like it and it seems to hold zero.  I just want something more reliable than my crappy tasco varmint.    Thanks for any info.
