I have a new Winchester Model 70 375HH and I need a compact scope for it for Africa. I have an old Leopold VX111 in 1.5X5X20 Gloss.
Would it take the pounding?
What rings and bases should I use?

Your Leupold is the model most recommended by professional hunters for it ability to handle recoil. I'd just use Leupold base and rings; they are hard to beat. The dual dovetail models are the strongest.

I would have no reservations other than it being old. If it is more than about 5 years old I think I would sell or trade it towards the latest greatest 2005 Leupold. Should not cost you very much in relation to the trip. |
