Looking at these 3 in the 6x-18X range to top a .223 walking bolt gun. Prices (used Leup and Buck) are close enough to not be a factor.
I've long been a Leup fan, but realize there are other players which may offer more for the buck. Hard to compete with Leupold warranty and support though. IMO the best warranty is the one you never have to use, cuz stuff doesn't break. |

JD: I have a Buckmaster 6-18X. Good glass, great adjustability incl. 1/8 moa reticle, quality "feel" about it. The side focus is great, esp. for offhand shooting, although it does add a few ounces. The smallish f.o.v. ("tunnel vision"?) is occasionally irritating, but overall a lot of good scope for the money.
I recently seriously looked at a V-16 Weaver vs. Bushnell 3200 7-21X; bought the Elite and now wish I'd saved the extra $ and went with the V.
At the same price for a used VX-II and a B-master, however, the Leupold trumps all of 'em. If was buying new, a 5-20X Monarch would be an upgrade IMO over the VX-II for about the same $.

Thanks for the impressions. To be clear, the Leupold is a Vari-X II vs, VX-II. What do you see between the Weaver V and the B'master for which you like the V?

Oh, the older Vari-X II. In that case, I'd go with the Nikon...
Actually, to me it'd be a coin toss between the Weaver V and the Buckmaster; the Nikon ha s the neat side focus and a tad better glass, the V has a more "spacious" field of view. Then again, you could upgrade to a Grand Slam Weaver 6-20X for about 75 bucks more than a V-16 but still less than the Nikon Monarch 5-20. Never had a GS but have heard/read mostly good about them (some don't like the looks-?-and the power ring is large.)
Decisions, decisions...
