I have a Luepold Var III 4.5-14 scope with hunting knobs.  I would like to get the target type knobs that I have on my Zeiss from Kenton using the BDC knobs.  I heard luepold could do the same thing.  This is my first Luepold scope so I need advice.

The gun is more of a target / tactical bull barrel gun so I would like to be able to practice some long shots and do some long Yote shootin!

Can Luepold do this, and if so , how much might this cost?

Thanks guys.

leo can put their tactical tmr and mk4 m1 knobs which is a better set up in the x3, I would guess about $60 per knob and $100 for the reticle.

Does anyone have a pic of the tmr / mk4 knobs?

What does TMR stand for?  Are there different options?

Why do I need a new reticle?  Why dont I just zero at 100, then choose my yardage per the knob?

Thank again.  I really am in the dark on this one with leo.

Sounds like you have a lot of questions that could be answered better by calling Leupold yourself. They're customer service is excellent.

TMR stands for Tactical milling Reticle.

you don't need a new reticle, just making you aware of the options. Sounds like youve got your loads ballistics down, so that leo can tailor the knobs to it. the advantage of the TMR (tactical milling reticle) is for intermediate values. dial in ballistic knobs are usually for whole values, 100, 200 300 etc, and not all shots are at exactly this range.

Thanks for the info.  I will definitly go for the knobs and maybe the reticle.  Yes, the reason I tried the forums is two fold; I knew I could learn something even and excellent service person may not think to ask, and they are closed till the new year.

Now, I am actually somewhat prepared to talk to luey's customer service.

good -- now that your this far, the difference between the two turret types, target and the m1s are
m1 no covers, target have caps
m1 are much stiffer and are not deflected by gun placement in cases or brushing against something
click detents on each have a distinct different feel, m1 easier to count, target somewhat easier to see (to me)--- good luck

Dale,

thank you very much.  Do you have any idea how either compares to the Kenton after market knobs that go on Zeiss.  I got the speed dials for my Zeiss, the only draw back to those was, they "only" go out to about 800 yards.  Which was more than enough for me.  And very easy to see.  Which leo knobs do you prefer?

not sure but I think the kentons just fit over, existing detents, thus the 'feeling" of the clicks are the same as previous. target leos and m1 are quite a bit different. targets are easy to "overshoot" whereas the m1 are more distinct, I prefer the m1s by a wide margin.
