Hey guys,
As the topic says, I'm taking my family to the Capitol this summer for a week. Any of you guys have experience on places (reasonable) to stay, and other parts to avoid ? Don't want to end up being a statistic -theft or otherwise.
I've had a few folks tell me to stay in Alexandria(?).
I think my kids are now of the age to appreciate such a trip, and the Mrs and I have never been either.

I've never been, but plan to in the next couple of years. My dad was a truck driver and once had a delivery delayed for a day and spent that day at the Smithsonian Museums. He counted that as one of his best spent days. He said he stayed from open till close and did not see everything.

Have a great vacation and be safe.

when i was in 8th grade we went to d.c ( it was an annual trip for the 8th grade class)
we did stay in alexandria, it was fine. the union station mall is kinda cool if your wife is a shopper, the smithsonian is well worth the admission and so is the air and space museum.

The D.C. area is pretty pricey in my book, if you can stay out in the suburbs it's not so bad.

I lived in that area for 20 years... There are tons of places near Dulles airport that will be reasonable. And only about a 30 minute drive downtown... If you stay out that way there is a new Air and Space museum at the airport that houses the space shuttle. Have Fun!

We used to have a training center in Tyson's Corner that's very close to DC. If memory servers me it was a pretty nice area; Alexandria was real nice.

If you only have time for one of the Smithsonian Museums, the National Air and Space Museum would be my choice.

The aviation museum at Dulles rocks..The Smithsonian ..Annapolis is 40 minutes away - Navy Acadamy and old town .. Nice places to stay in McLean south of DC and Tyson Corner ( pricey though ) .. College Park ( Univ of Maryland -Go Terps ) is just north of DC ... lots of boating in the area
