Hi;  I'm new here and have a bunch of questions.  I will start with this one first as it will probably influence what I ultimately end up with.

I am in the market for a new spotting scope.  I may end up buying a used/refurbished scope so I am interested in what the warrantys are like on used scopes.  I am familiar with the warrantys on rifle scopes but not spotting scopes so if there is a difference I would like to know it.
  • The ones that appear to have unconditional warrantys are:  Zeiss, leupold, Bausch & lomb, Bushnell, Vortex  and Sightron.  I believe they will honor the warranty for those who are not the original owners.
  • I don't know about Swarovski, Kowa, Pentax or Leica.
  • It doesn't appear that Nikon has a transferrable warranty, at least the refurbished items are only warranteed for 90 days.

More questions to follow.

Thanks in advance.

Ike

Warranties on used scope vary greatly.  It is not just an issue of brand, but often also of what specific model you are considering.  For example, not all Leupolds have transferable warranties.  The Golden Ring products do, but not the Green Ring (Wind River) models.  So too, with other brands.

Before you buy a used scope, you should do research for the specific model you are planning on purchasing.  The best way is to call the manufacturer directly.
