The old, old ones?

Would you be using it as a genuine, modern-day optic, or adding it to a period gun?

I know of a 1 1/2 inch 14X external adjust Unertl that won a 1000 yd Wimbleton match using 190 gr Hornady match bullets launched from a .300 Win Mag.

If it is an external adjust Unertl, when you use it make sure the recoil spring is adjusted to return the scope into position and then check by pulling the scope back into position after each round fired.

The external adjust Unertls were unique and we old guys liked them despite the bulk, length, on barrel mount blocks, and weight.

Of course you might be refering to a modern scope and in that event the above comments are null.

To Rancid Coolaid and Stevet Ducks, I plan on using it on a 1903 Springfield 30-06 using a 168 gr bullet, Hank

In the early 60's, .30-06 Win M70's fitted with 8X external adjustment Unertl scopes were deployed in Viet Nam with loads very close to what you plan to use. Your planned combo would certainly represent a classic and would attract my attention should I view it in operation.

FYI, I saw the 1 1/2x12 external mount used on the Ma Duce in SEA.
I was told the external mount might go bad before the scope.
For it's time one of the best scopes in the world...along with the B&L 6x24 and Lyman.
We finally have more rugged optics, better glass and weatherproofing.
The Unertl's and Fecker's were great scopes for their time, really better optically than most of the European scopes of the time.
Art
Good day.
