I would like an unbias opinion on three scopes Zeiss HD5 5x25 vs. Swarovski Z5 5x25 vs. Leopold VX6 4x24 . I have done a bit of research the three scopes listed, I talked to a rep at Zeiss and he told me there is no comparison between the standard conquest series and the HD5 series (HD lens system (actually ED) lenses and T* & lotuTec coatings and that is was designed to compete with Swarovski's Z5. I hear people say the Z5 and Z6 are the same but that is not correct they are a class above the Z5. The Z6 has Fluoride lenses on 2.5x15 , 3x18 , 5x30 scopes, it stands to reason you can buy two Z5 5x25's for the price of a one Z6 5x30.

I did a comparison a few years ago.  I tried Nightforce, Leupold, Swaro, Ziess Conquest and Ziess Diavari.  The results were about what I expected.  In sunlight, they all are good. As it got darker, the leupold had trouble with lower light.  I was watched a steer on a brown field (california)  and the steer got impossible to find.  This was about 30 minutes after sundown.  about 45 minutes, the conquest had trouble.  About 50-55 minutes the swaro and the nightforce had trouble.   My Ziess Diavari was great and since the moon came up, I could still see the steer (about 1/2 mile away) until we quit around 10 PM.

I did a similar test with swaro and leupold hunting boars before sun-up.  I could make out the hog, boar not sow, with my swaro, but the leupold could not tell the hog from a rock.  This was in the coastal range kind of near clear lake.

My bottom line, it depends on the low light conditions.  For shooting to 30 minutes post sunset, all of the scopes were ok.  For shooting 30 minutes before daylight, only the leupold was not bright enough. But, the best scope was the most expensive, the Ziess Diavari.

These were all either 3x9, 4x12 or 5x15s.  That is what had, but the leupy was the 3x9, and so was the conquest.  THey should have been the brightest, but were the least bright.
