Hi folks, just entering into the world of hunting and need some advice.  I just purchased a Remington .30-06 700 ADL and am attempting to mount a scope on it.  The person at the gunshop sold me on Burris Trumount bases (front dovetail, rear windage adj.) with Leupold rings.  However, I get on line on another forum and someone said that was the worst possible scenario because the setup would cause undue torsion on the scope barrel causing the seals to leak and that the windage screws would loosen with time requiring constant rezeroing.  Instead he suggested Weaver style bases with Warne Quick release rings (since I have steel sights on the gun).  So now I'm totally confused.  Should I mount the rings that I bought at the store, return them or what???  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

while turn ins work and if you do what your knowing will be fine---- they are a bit outdated, the weaver/warne combination is much better.

The part I bolded in red is a worst case scenario possible only with gross carelessness in mounting procedure. Such systems are very popular around here,(Wisconsin), and work very well if they are installed correctly. They wouldn't be my first choice on a very hard kicker, but on anything short of a .458 they are plenty tough. The windage adjustment may be a real asset, too, if your receiver is drilled a bit crooked. Just put a little Loctite on the Windage screw threads and they won't shoot loose.

I think, like Dale Clifford does, that the Weaver cross-slot  style is more versatile, especially if you tend to swap optics around on different guns, but I don't really think that any system that works well is ever really "outdated", especially concerning guns. I am a damned old dinosaur tho' ......
