I will say that the term (fairly good scope) is quite subjective and you will not likelly find many people here that think Truglo is fairly good. While it no doubt has its fans I would tend to say that you get what you pay for in optics and if we are talking scopes in the under $200 range what I would recommend is Weaver scopes - these are good reliable scopes that have been around for a very long time and have passed the test of time. I think I could be a quite successful hunter with a fixed 6x or 4x weaver or one of their variables. Having said that, my idea of a fairly good scope considering price and what you get is Bushnell 4200, the 3-9x40 Zeiss, Leupold VXIII scopes mainly due to the fine balistic reticles, Trijicon Accupoint scopes, Used Kahles scopes from Samplelist.  My least expensive scope is a tasco 3-9x40 and I would take it over a Truglo. Probably not what you want to hear but eaven with Bow sights Truglo is not the pick of the litter these days.   Sightron scopes also get the seal of approval and are reasonably priced.

Kirkland...................Were you looking at the Truglo`s in order to get an illuminated reticle? Or were you considering their non-illuminated models?.............IMO, better to go with better glass, better durability and forego a cheaper illuminated scope! Remember, you get what you pay for when it comes to optics!..............The Weaver line would be an excellent choice for your handy 444! They are very capable of handling any recoil from your rifle. As a matter of fact, these are used for the punishing recoil of the 454 Casull handguns! For the money, the Weavers offer great glass.........With the new lever revolution ammo, your variable choice should be no more than 7x or 8x power!...............If you REALLY wish to step up in cost to an illuminated scope and get the best? (I just can`t resist)... For the quickest (both eyes open) possible target acquisition, outstanding/excellent clarity, great eye relief and without any batteries, look carefully at the Trijicon line.........To the brain, its amber illuminated arrow is faster to target than the illuminated red cross hairs or non-illuminated cross hairs...........For any potentially dangerous big bear work or any non dangerous game,  this scope is ideal. The 1.5x4 Trijeey in amber is going on my soon to acquire 375 Ruger Alaskan! That variable would also be ideal for your rifle!.........Oh well! Just a thought!!!!Thinking
