I just received a lightly used Trijicon Tripower TX30. I used one on a few entries on my last trip to the sandbox and I recall the reticle being much brighter than on the one I just received. Maybe I was using the battery all the time because we had plenty of them. The optic just came back from Trijicon with a clean bill of health. Please give me some feedback. I find the aiming chevron difficult to pick up, especially when in dark areas looking in to brighter ones. When I turn the battery on it gets plenty bright under all conditions.

Thanks!!

Lightly used is the part that makes me think it may be starting to dim.  As you probably know Tritium is a gas and a rather illusive gas at that. Life expectency is about 10 to 15 yrs but the tritium starts to dim.  I would think the fiber optic would still have you covered. The battery of course is rather short lived but useful especially from dark area looking into a lighter area.  I have a TA442  1.5x amber triangle that I really like although the amber does tend to wash out a little looking toward a streetlight.  If you want something that will appear brighter the green color is supposed to appear the brightest.  If what you have is not what you want trade it in to SWFA toward the purchase of the right optic but dont delay as some models may need to be ordered in so call and ask availability.  The trade in form is on the first page of samplelist.   Stay Safe.

I will mount it on an M4 and take it to the range for an eval. Trijicon tech help said this was a normal condition but I expected it to bloom like my TA31F but it does not. We'll see....

Thanks for the input!

If you notice they have changed the fiber optic on the reflex big time and I suspect the tripower will either go away entirely or be updated before too long.  For some reason the tri power has never caught on.  EOTech did real well and Aimpoint rescued themself with the Comp M4 and better battery life.  The Comp M4 really is an awesome  red dot. I still find the triangle and chevron to be more precise due to the point.  I would not hesitate to take a TA442 to a gunfight. When comparing models watch eye relief and field of view numbers.  Definately get a fiber optic / tritium model.  I'm thinking the green 4x would be an awesome choice for the sand box.   Get a La Rue mount.

Chris, are you home for good this time or headed back at some point?

Glad your home safe.

I have no experience with the tripower but considered getting one.  I've heard mixed things about it, kinda like the traditional Trijicon reflex: great at times, sucks at times.

Let me know how it does at the range.

I am fairly confident that I am home for good-wife and new baby girl had alot of influence on my decision-making! I am still pretty banged up from the last trip as well. I had an EOTech on my primary M4 in Iraq-I liked it until one night I got out of the truck, turned it on, and the reticle was flashing at me-a sickening feeling. I had a really nice set-up on my M2 (I liked to TC from the turret when we were going cross-country to our AO). It was an EOTech on a cammed mount that could be zeroed for 2 different ranges. It was very sexy but I soon swapped the EOTech for a PEQ2 because most of our engagements were at night. I have a Reflex on a personal weapon that I like. I recall doing entries with the EOTech and always having to adjust the reticle brightness with those arrow buttons. I really like the fiber optic self adjusting feature. I never once used the NV feature of the EOTech-night was PEQ2 all the way. I used a TA31F as well. Most of us put a piece of green riggers tape over the fiber optic because it got ridiculously bright during full sunlight. I'll let you know how the range session works out with the TriPower.

Welcome back, Mr. Avery!

Are you still flying the F4U Corsair on the air show circuit?  I enjoyed watching your performance once, I believe at the Alliance air show in Ft. Worth.  Nicely executed slow roll!Excellent

Thanks for the kind words, everyone! Rifledude, yes, still flying the Corsair. It was a tough spring weatherwise but I flew at Tyndall, Keesler and Robins AFBs so far. One of my buddies will be flying it at NASJRB Ft. Worth in May. Leaving on a 4-day trip-won't make it to the range to try the TriPower until next week. Stay tuned...

Chris

That's this coming weekend.  I'll be there!  Good to know!

Sorry to veer off-topic; I've always admired the Corsair ever since I was a kid watching Baah, Baah Blacksheep on TV.

I hope the Trijicon Tripower lives up to your expectations!
Ted
