   I recently purchased a Trijicon Tripower sight for my SOCOM 16. Once I received it I discovered that the tritium illumination is so dim that the reticle is invisible even in total darkness unless viewed through night vision equipment. I have contacted Trijicon but the only response I've gotten after a month is an email asking for the units serial number. I sent this to them last week so maybe they'll get back to me sometime soon. My question to the fine folks here at OT is; Is this a normal thing with the Tripower? I was under the impression that the tritium reticle was supposed to provide a visible aiming point in low light situations. The fiber optic works fine in normal daylight conditions and the battery back-up also works. Mine even has a little compartment for a mini lightstick that also works. But it doesn't seem logical that one would need to use the battery back up to see the reticle in a dimly lit room.Loco I've asked Trijicon if this is normal or if my unit needs a "recharge" but they have been slow to respond so far. Anybody got any experience with these things?
   Thanks!

Tritium light sources have a limited lifespan (measured in years - not decades). Assuming you bought from a respectible source, I would not expect this to be problem. That may be why they asked for a serial number.

If the tripower is one of the originals, your tritium should be about up.

If it is relatively new, it should be visible.

Let us know how this goes.

I recently asked them (Trijicon) about their tritium warranty:  they said they guarantee the tritium source for 15 years. So you should be covered. After you have to spend some $$ to get it recharged,. they quoted me $56, I think for tritium triple dot (pistol) sights including return shipping.

It is not normal for you not to see the sights. If you can't see it, they will replace the tritium source (or the scope). No worries mate:-)

If you bought local, the easiest thing would be to bring it back btw.

300S&W;
WestOfPecos;

Thanks for the contact information and the price quote! I bought the thing through ebay listed as "new"  but I fully expected there might be a bug or two to iron out. I emailed them(Trijicon) but first thing Monday I will use the number you provided to call them directly. $56.00 is a good deal to get the thing recharged.(my opinion).((I realize that is only an estimate.)).
   Thanks, guys. I'll let you know how it goes!

   good afternoon,everyone!

Just got off the phone with a nice lady at Trijicon who walked me through the steps to get a return authorization number to get my Tripower recharged. Quoted me $54.00 for the actual repair. ( which I think is a good deal). According to their website someone will contact me by 4:00 PM tomorrow.
   Thanks for the help and I'll let you know how it turns out!Big SmileBig Grin

If I were you Rocky,I'd go back to ebay & launch a complaint against the scumbag who posted new.Those kind of people really make it bad on everyone.

I've been with ebay since 1999 & 2 times I've launched a complaint & 2 times my beef was taken care of 100%

At least give the person a bad review when you get vindicated by the ebay powers that be Spanker

Tritium is a gas and it will escape very easily if the little glass vile doesnt seal right so it may or may not have been new but you can bet the seller knew it was f***ed up.  glad that Trijicon is taking care of you.   A bad feedback on EBAY is certainly warranted.

Just goes to show saving a little can cost a lot in time and heartache. I have had the best of service with SWFA every time.

Thanks for the support and kind words, folks. I have seen so many of you mention SWFA in positive, almost glowing fashion that I will make them my first stop the next time I'm optic shopping. Particularly  interesting is the Super Sniper that almost everyone seems to like.
   3tens, you are certainly correct about trying to save a few dollars being very expensive. I have learned my lesson on this! As for ebay, I've only been using their fine services for less than a year and this is my first negative experience.  I will be much more cautious in the future when it comes to things like this.Embarrased

Howdy, folks.

   Today a box arrived at my house. Not even thinking it might have something to do with my Tri-power I opened it and discovered a BRAND NEW TRI-POWER SCOPE!!!Yippee Those folks at Trijicon are unbelievable! They most assuredly honored their warranty and went above and beyond my wildest expectations. As a guy who has not often encountered such kindness I am almost in a state of shock. There was a simple invoice enclosed stating that my defective unit was being replaced by a brand new one at absolutely no cost to me whatsoever!Big GrinBig SmileBandito I am sending them a letter of appreciation today.Excellent
   Thanks to all of you who helped me on this matter.
   And yes, I'm saving up for a Trijicon Accu-point which I will purchase from SWFA! Any outfit that stands behind their product to that extent has me for a customer for life.
