Does anyone have any firsthand experience with the TR 21 1.25-4x24 Accupoint? The specifications say the eye relief varies from 4.8 to 3.4 inches. This seems like a huge range. Other than that, it looks like an excellent scope at 11.7 ounces and available with the great illuminated post reticle.

My VXIII 2.5-8x36 had a variation from 4.7 to 3.7 inches, which was too much. I couldn't mount it in a way to use it above 6x comfortably and still have 2.5x available, which was more important as it spent most of its time at 2 1/2 power.

Any comments?

I have the 3-9 X 40 Accupoint. It's ER is somewhat "less" varible @ 3.6-3.2. It has been no issue (and I like the scope a lot).

I would consider 0.4" is a small variation whereas the TR21 has a 1.4" variation, on paper anyway. Everyone seems to like their Accupoints a lot, but there don't seem to be too many fans of their lightest model, the TR 21.

Have a TR21.  It's mounted on a 223.  I set it up so it is midline on the eye relief.  This way, when I need to take the long shot, I can creep if needed or just look through and get a smaller FOV.

What caliber would you be putting it on?

It's going on a lightweight Weatherby 7mm-08, which is my woods rifle.

I have a TR21.  Yes, it has pretty widely varying ER, though I've managed to find a "happy median" mounting position so that it hasn't really been a problem.  It has a bit more tunnel vision than I've seen on the other Accupoints as well.  The biggest issue I see with this scope is the fact it has a slight objective bell, and this will cause some mounting length issues on some rifles, due to the fact it's already a short scope.

Optically, it produces good image quality, just like the other Accupoints.

If I were considering this scope, I would go ahead and save up a little more and buy the 30mm 1-4X24 TR24.  It has much wider FOV, no mounting length issues, and fixed ER.  It's not that much more expensive than the TR21, but it's a much better scope.

It does look like the mounting length is a little short. My Weatherby is a long action, even though it is in a short caliber. The Leupold I had on it two seasons ago had a mounting length of 5.1" which just fit. I think the TR 21 will probably not work because it appears to share a short mounting length and long variation in eye relief with the Leupold. Too bad, because I really would like to try the illuminated post reticle. There seem to be many fans of the TR 24 but it is heavier than I prefer. I am looking for a light scope.

You could get a 1 piece base for it.  That way length is not really an issue

I agree, a 1 piece base would fix any mounting issue, but since I was uncomfortable with a 1" variation in eye relief I have to believe I would be even less happy with a 1.4" variation.

I have two of the 1.25-4x24 Accupoints. The eye relief seems designed more for quick pointing where form is not critical, i.e an assault rifle or shotgun.  Even so I haven't had any issues with the range of the eye relief, but I do think it's too long overall for most rifles. I had to use an extended front ring to get it far enough forward on an Encore. On the other hand the only way you're gonna' get scope bite is if your shoulder dislocates.
