This is a repost from another forum.

Just musing over the idea of getting a really large, heavy, probably impractical scope for my upcoming 16" barreled, 7.62 x 51mm rifle - for kicks and giggles.

Among you folks who might've had the chance to use these different reticles - is there any appreciable difference in difficulty of "accurate" shot placement between the triangular chevron and the 2MOA dot (called Trijicon Customer Support for that, couldn't find the spec anywhere) within 100 to 600m, given that magnification is already at 6x?

I really couldn't appreciate what a 6x field is at these ranges - only got to play at 20x and up with a spotting scope at one of the state parks.

Never mind the gradations in the latter - it was probably meant for automatic fire through 24" barrels; not sure about the former, though.

What I'm interested in is the ability to place individual shots with either the chevron or the dot; I realize that this isn't really what the dot is used for - and intuitively, the chevron's probably more "pinpoint," but I'm wondering if it really matters in actual use.

I had a TA31 that I could put some really tight groups up with on my 6.5 Grendel.  The tip of the triangle is a great precise aiming point, and the triange itself works great for a rapid aiming point.
