I am considering one of these to top a 7mm-08 or 7mag but I need some reticle advice. What is the advantage of the triangle only vs the crosshair with a green dot. What are the advantages and disadvantages of both?
I am normally a Swarovski or Zeiss glass fan but I am considering trying the Trijicon for the reticle. From research it looks to have glass on par to the Z3 or conquest line. I am all for trying it if the glass is similar to those 2 Euro lines. Any suggestions on reticles or the scope in general would be appreciated! Thanks |

Triangle...
Advantages: - Very fast acquisition, especially using the "Bindon Aiming Concept" with both eyes open. - Uncluttered sight picture. - Very visible in all lighting conditions Disadvantages: - Non-traditional and some have difficulty intuitively aiming with the very tip of the triangle. - Some claim it's not as suitable for high precision aiming (which is incorrect, if you're aiming with the very tip of the point on the triangle). Crosshair and dot: Advantages: - Doesn't require folks who are accustomed to traditional crosshairs to re-think how they aim. - Some may prefer it in really low light hunting because it's smaller and has less chance of over-illumination. - The reticle is better suited for holdover. - Mil dot version of the dot crosshair available. Disadvantages: - Slower acquisition for rapid shot opportunities. - Dot is less immediately visible if you like daytime illumination. It's just personal preference. Triangle post reticles aren't very common in the US, and people tend to prefer what they're used to. I happen to prefer their triangle BAC reticle over the dot for "spot and stalk" type hunting in particular. |

I have ran several versions of their reticles..
Like Ted said, personal preference I like the greendot/mildot reticle. My brain can't get used to the triangle, I can shoot accurately with it but I just don't like it, tried it ina 1-4 for 3 gun and 3-9 for hunting. |

I also like the triangle post style reticle for fast target acquisition. I prefer the tritium / fiber optic Trijicon illumination to all other systems of illumination because its always on and never needs batteries. I can be sub MOA at 200 or 300 yds with the post so long as I zero at that distance. A post is a little harder to use at estimated hold over for longer distances but for anything under 300 yds I really like it. I like the 1-4 red post very well but have had the red post 5-20 x50 and still have the green mil dot 5-20x50. I have always wanted the 2.5-10x56 with a red post but have not gotten around to buying one. I have had the 3-9 in two styles and did not like the dot crosshair well enough to keep it, but the 2.5-10x56 and the red or amber post is visably much wider field of view at 2.5 than the other at 3x. You wouldnt think it would be much difference but I find it quite noticeable. I use the 1-4 for a coyote gun and have it in quick detachable La Rue rings so that I can switch it to a 45-70 for self defense from bears if I get up into bear country in Mn.

Does the Trijicon Accupoint have Hydrophobic coatings or is it just on the TARS model?

No, Accupoints don't have the hydrophobic coatings.
Wish they did. |
