All that just to change a light bulb. It would be a cool job for a BASE jumper...if the boss allowed that and they didn't have to worry about the guy wires at the bottom. Regardless, that's a job that takes a lot of commitment and patience.

Heights don't bother me but my arms and legs would have given out about 30' up!

No way, man.  I'm not very scared of heights, but I am scared of being suspended way up high without adequate means of securing me to something.

I don't climb every day, just most...although the highest I think I've ever been is 460' , I have never had an elevator on a tower so ya, I'd climb that sucker.  Didn't they say there was an elevator up to 1600'..shoot..walk in the park.

To answer your question, NO.
I am surprised that OSHA does not require a safety anchor line all the way up.  I also find it ironic that they're wearing hard hats yet climbing to 1700 feet with no safety line.

To the dismay of many, there are places that are esteemed safety regulators don't know about. Let alone go! Hell the one around here is about 5'3" cubed, and would put a serious strain on the structural integrity of that tower.

I used to climb telephone poles for a living but usually only got up to 18', rare cases it was higher.  Bucky

we jump from 1,700 + feet skydiving. I'm not afraid of hights or having anything to hold on to. If I fell i would yell out cannon ball a few times on the way to my splat.

I've skydived myself (and used to rock climb in Yosemite) but still like something to hold onto when climbing anything. I'm crazy but not nuts.  Big Smile
