Dots also have the advantage for the viewer to be "off center" when the shooter puts the dot on the target. Try it, put the dot on the target and slowly rotate your head such that you are looking at the extreme side or top of the viewing device. The dot will still be on the target. For a good in depth go to aimpoints website. Off course this is a result of their parallex free property- and one which makes them so fast- a desired feature in IPSC competition.
