I go with the Harris s-25 to get me over vegetation. It's still short enough to shoot prone, but at 25" you can shoot sitting to get over grass, and brush.

+2
I've been using this model when hunting for about 8 years now.

The s is for "swivel" which to me seems to give one a little better advantage, when out in the field, on uneven surfaces than the standard Harris model.

I have the short 9" standard model for when at the range.

Go with a swivel model for sure to overcome any canting and get a quick-release lock. (You can get either the Pod-Loc or get the parts cheaper here: http://t-nuts.com/index.php?cPath=73&osCsid=8fa7a95e47d011e66d1d01b843e2c163)

I use the 9-13 model and occasionally run into prone shots where I wish I had a little more height, but that's generally good. I wouldn't go smaller. I don't see where the lowest model would be any good except in an urban situation.
So here's a nickel on the grass to you - your spirit, enthusiasm, sacrifice and courage - but most of all your friendship. Yours is a dying breed. When you are gone, the world will be a lesser place.

Here are my shooting sticks.  Doubles as walking sticks and glass stand.  I really like these.

I have a set of the "Stoney Point" steady sticks which work well but I keep going back to my Harris setup. Big Grin
