I do wish the Nikon had a lighted reticle though after reading this thread. Actually, night vision scopes can be had nowadays too when you compare them to a $1500 scope. As long as you're willing to settle for an older generation of night vision. |

Might look at et h Bushy 3200 or better yet 4200 line as they have great light transmission for the buck and the rainguard is really nice too!

Thanks for the replies. I'm in the habit of doing ALOT of research before I plunk down money on anything. I have an odd hang up -especially- when it comes to the money spent on optics. Well.........no reason to mix words: I'm a tight wad when it comes to glass. Bottom line. The most expensive scope I have is a Nikon 6-18X40 SF w/BDC reticle. Thus the research. At this point, it would be difficult for me to put out $1.5K for one just due to the way my pea is wired. I don't seem to be as balky when it comes to what they ride on though. Thanks again. I'll ponder more.

BigG.
I used the mount that came with the laser. I didn't use mine long enough to find out how well it would hold up (laser or mount). I scrapped the whole thing after only a handful of hunts. I tried it 5 or 6 times and even when I could get the piece of sh!t to work, it was ineffective as it scared away my hogs. I'm not really into ineffective, I'm more into killing hogs, so I switched tactics. I might consider trying it out in the warmer weather, but I've been too busy to go hunting lately :(( My advice is buy very high-end optics and hunt with the moonlight. I've got about a $1.5k scope on my rifle and although it was hard dishing out for it, I don't regret one penny I spent on it. It's like the difference between a VW and a Ferrari when you're trying to get somewhere quick - only I'm trying to shoot sh*t at night. I don't have night vision, although I almost could for what I spent. Just good glass, large objective, a 30mm tube, and a lovely illuminated reticle. |

Welcome to OT, BigG!
The ND-3 is still working well for me, except in really cold weather. Lasers and batteries just don't perform too well when the temps get down in the 20's and lower. Unfortunately, the W/E mount is pretty cheap and flimsy. I've found it doesn't stay put very well at all. It works and is better than nothing, but if possible, I would recommend just buying a good quality 1" scope mount and mounting it on a Picatinny rail. While it's nice to have the center of the beam zeroed with the center of your scope, it doesn't have to be perfectly centered to work just fine if the beam diameter is large enough. You can get it pretty close with just a standard 1" scope mount and shims if you have extra rail space on your rifle or a picatinny top cap on your scope rings. One thing I'm thinking about trying is mounting the ND-3 in some 1" Burris Signature rings. The radiused plastic inserts in these rings will allow the ND-3 to be pivoted slightly, and there are different insert thicknesses that can be mixed front to back and top to bottom to help with alignment. |

Greetings. I just joined this forum as a result of finding this thread in a search on the ND 3. I know the thread is a little cold but y'all should have even more feedback on this laser by now. One thing that I'm curious about: How well does it stay dialed in with the W/E mount that is provided with it? Another thing: Chadwick posted pics of his rifle but didn't clarify what mount he used (brand, etc.). Is that the one thatit comes with? Thanks

For me, so far, hogs haven't paid any attention to the light, but I always use it with the beam adjusted rather large, so the light is more diffuse. I don't use the pressure switch either; I use the continuous on/off button tail cap switch. I don't trust the pressure switch. I don't use any special technique to avoid spooking them. I just switch the laser on when I see a hog, aim, and shoot.
The mounts that come with the kit are cheap. When I get my AR completed and the ND-3 gets moved over to it, I will get a more substantial mount. The only other issue I've had is the poor cold weather performance noted earlier, but this is a universal problem with lasers in general. |

I typically hunt hogs at between 90 to 200 yards. I haven't fooled with it much. After about 3 or 4 times of the hogs burning off I bought a bigger better scope (56mm Leupold w/ illum reticle) so I can just use the moonlight. It limits me to about 3 weekends each month because for about a week or so there isnt enough moon to hunt with, but it ensures that the hogs don't get spooked. I'm hunting in an area where the wildlife isnt used to very much human activity so it may just be that any kind of unnatural light is going to spook the hogs. |

have you tried aiming it at ground and slowly bringing it up on the hogs
I would think having it said as wide of a pattern as possible would be best and tune smaller if needed to reach out farther |

Yes. Every time I've used it on hogs they bolt immediately. There are others here who seem to not have that problem. I was going to do a little experimenting with it, but I find that after doing all the work to get the hogs to a particular spot in my rifle sights I always choose pulling the trigger rather than risking spooking them away again by fooling around with a laser.
I missed an opportunity to shoot the biggest hog I've ever seen in person (seen bigger ones on the almighty internet) because of that laser. Would have been a nice mount. |
