I stand corrected, then. The Burris must have pretty good glass!

If you are talking purely target/range use you would probably be better off with a remote video camera set up. Place a video camera near your target and a monitor on your bench.
I hope this link is ok as it's not pointing to a competitor but to something completely different. http://www.6mmbr.com/targetcam.html |

I doubt you will be able to consistently see .308 holes at 500 yards with those scopes.

Has anyone used either of these? I find no reviews on the Konus except up to 200yrs and the burris seems to be 1/2 and 1/2. Thanks!

I have the same need. I just sold my cheapo 15-40x-50mm. I am considering these 2 scopes. I do not want to spend over $200 and need to see 308 up to 500 yards. I know they will not be usable at full mag but hopefully past 50 or 60x.
Burris 25-75x70 XTS2575 $205
KONUS KONUSPOT 30-90X70 $100 |

The pros use 100mm Optolith, Kowa or Fujinons these firms produce astronomy grade scopes. You will need the 100mm objective lens to obtain the resolution to see tiny holes at those ranges. Try some of the camera stores on line to find some of these scopes.

I had the Bushnell Excursion 15-45x60 out at the range today and we could make out .22 holes pretty easily at 200 yards. At 300 yards, the targets were in the shade and it was alright looking at .30 cal holes but I could not make out .22 holes well enough to analyze them. (When changing targets, I took my .22 up close enough to get on paper at both distances since we had the 300 yard range to ourselves). Bear in mind it was less than 60F and very calm so ideal conditions other than the shade.

Its probably a lot cheaper to buy a 45-70 and a cheap spotting scope and punch bigger holes because .22 holes are really hard to see. My poor little Burris spotter struggles with 30 cal at 200 yds.
