Santa brought me a nice gift... a Sako Quad with .22lr and .17HMR barrels (unfortunately, I was unable to charge it to Santa's credit card  ).  My delima is that I have two pretty good scopes, and can't decide which one to mount on it.  I have a Sightron SII 3-9x36 AO (fine cross hairs) and a Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 (Ballistic Plex).  I will be using the gun for informal target shooting and hunting small game.  My concern with the Sightron is hunting... is the AO too much trouble to fiddle with before the shot?  Will the fine cross hairs get lost on game in low light?  The concern with the Burris is the dredded parallex... I assume the Burris is set for 100 yards, so using the .22lr barrel will I be able to make 20 - 50 yard shots and consistently hit small targets?  Using the .17HMR shots will more likely be longer (50 - 150 yards), and it probably won't be a problem there.

Questions: How "bad" can incorrect parallex be at short ranges using the Burris (what's the worst case)?  Does anyone use AO scope and/or fine cross hairs for hunting; do you find it cumbersom?

P.S. I would mount the scope I don't use on the Quad, on another rifle.  So, it wouldn't be very handy to change scopes with barrels, but maybe that's the best option??

Thanks.

Scopes without an adjustable parallax are typically "fixed" at 100 yards however you'll find that 3-9 scopes typically do not have an adjustable objective. The reason being that at such low magnification the parallax offset is not an issue and does not need to be corrected.Only time you will  find this not to be true are scopes that are intended to focus down to maybe 10 yards, such as specialized rimfire or target scopes. For your intended use, this will not be a problem. And good luck with that fine rifle.......OH AND A PIC MIGHT BE NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, are you saying that the 3-9 power range would be less effected by parallax error, than a higher power scope?  I'm a "low mag" kinda guy.  Except for 100 yard shooting for groups, I doubt either scope would see 9x very often.

I will take some photos this week and post them.  Although, I'm not the best photographer.  Maybe I'll take one with the Sightron and one with the Burris... because looks do count for some small portion of the choice .

Here's the best I can do at the moment:
