Hello All,
I just purchased my first bolt action Tikka T3 30.06. Next im looking for scope but having trouble deciding.

I plan on shooting at range from 100-700 yards and possibly go hunt some hogs in future.

Im looking at 3 variable options = 2.5x10 or 3x12 or 4x16

Next im looking at VOrtex, Burris, Bushness, Weaver.

My budget is $300-$500.

Check the sample list often. For a few more dollars you may find a Zeiss Conquest MC in either 44MM or 50MM. I have a 50MM Z-MC on my T3 and it works very well along with keeping the overall locked and loaded weight to right at 8 lbs.

One good thing about the T3's weight is you can mount a humongous scope on it and the rifle is still manageable.

My older Tikka M695 is much heavier.  I need to put a lighter scope on it to try to lower the weight.

Thanks for your tips. I guess saving up a little more to for better quality does make sense. Let me do some research on the Zeiss & Meopta's.

After looking at both the Meopta and Zeiss, i will most likely save up and get the Zeiss 3x15, which i think meets my mid to long range shooting and hunting at lower end.

For target shooting & hunting, are there any differences in the following reticles i should consider?
Matte Z Plex, Z Plex, Rapid Z Plex 600

Between the 3x15x42 & 3x15x50 there is 6 ounce difference in weight, costs little more , gives me larger field of view. Do you guys think its worth the weight, cost and larger field of view to get the 50 over 42?

Personally I don't think the 50mm is worth the greater weight in the Zeiss HD2 line especially for a compact light T3. Also it seems like there are more sample list deals on 2-10x42 and 3-15x42. The RZ600 or 800 reticles are very good. If you go that route you should first run Zeiss ballistic calculator (http://ballistic-calculator.zeiss.com/ballistic) on the bullet and velocity and altitude you expect to shoot.

I've been running an SS 3-15x42 on my T3 Lite for two years now. I keep thinking of switching to the SS 3-9 but don't really feel the need to save weight and lose 6X magnification. It's a great combo as is.

Do you guys think its worth additional $100 for lockable turrets vs. hunter turret?
