Picked up this T3 a few weeks ago and paired it up with a 3-9 green mildot that was on the sample list, DNZ mount. Good, light combo that carries well.

I tried multiple loads and settled on two: Hornady Superformance 95gr SST and Nosler 85gr Partition. No range pics as my Romper Room camera keeled over and I had no other way of taking pics until I bought the IPad I'm currently typing on. Both of these loads are about 2 1/4" at 200 yds for 5-shot groups. The Hornady 75 gr HP and the Federal loading of the Nosler 70gr BT would both do about half that, but I'm told the BT is pretty explosive, and the Hornady tech says the HP is not recommended for hunting. I was hoping to get a good showing from a monolithic, but 80gr TTSX, 85gr TSX, and 80gr GMX looked more like shotgun patterns than rifle groups.

Hornady tech said they'd had good results with the SST in the field, but said if I hit a thick shoulder it might not penetrate well.

I paid to go to a 1000-acre fenced place to check it out. A group of about 20 pigs showed up to eat on the road, and I chose a small one -maybe 40 lbs- to shoot through the shoulders at about 50-60 yds.   Both bones were shattered and the chest cavity was soupy. About an hour later I chose a sow with an estimated weight of 70 lbs quartering slightly towards me and shot her in the neck. Because of the angle it caught the offside shoulder on the way out and shattered some bone there. Next trips will be to observe performance on progressively bigger ones, then switch to the Partitions. At this point the SST looks promising.

Overall I like the combo. The rifle feels comfortable, and I've had good experiences with the Accupoints before. This one has either a slightly canted reticle or an off-level turret or cap, so getting it level required a different method, but it works fine and adjusts properly. This is my first .243, so I'm still getting used to the rapid heating and slow cooling down.

Looking for a way to carry extra ammo on the gun. Favorite ways?

Thoughts, comments, suggestions?   Thanks.

Winchester Supreme's shot excellent out of my T-3 .243.  1/2" @ 100yrd's was pretty normal... just a thought.

What weight? The 55's shot about that size for me as well, but they're to light for pigs. I think there are some heavier Supremes, but I couldn't find them when I was range testing different loads. I think they were 95 or 100, and nothing heavier than 85gr was decent except for the SST. Do you remember what grain?

I'll try those at the next range session. Nobody had them in stock when I was buying. I wonder if the construction is better than the SST. What have you shot with that load? You said always good results, so it sounds like good terminal performance.

i've only shot paper out of my son's 270win t3 and it also likes nosler bt's better than anything else, specifically federal premium 130gr NBT.... consistently shoot 1/2" 100yd groups with those... however, it'll also shoot 1" 100 yard groups with 150gr remmy core-lokts.... and those bullets have probably killed more animals in north america than most others combined.  *shrug*

I tried the 80gr Remington and the 100gr Core-Lokt. The 80's did okay at 100 yds, but got messy at 200. The 100's were about 3" at 100 yds, so I didn't bother with 200. If I ever get another .243, I think I'll look for a little faster twist.
