Hi,I am new here.
I recently bought a Swfa 10x42 SS Mil dot scope moa adjustments.
I am going to mount it on A Remington 700 7mm Magnum.
I will be using the combo to hunt whitetail deer on the family
farm I have been hunting on for 40 years.
My stands are on the edges of agri fields(soybeans ,rice fields.
Only OCCASIONALY do I go into the woods to hunt which could present 25 to 75 yard shots.

I need some input on sight in range.
Would it be best to sight in at a 100 yards then dial for ranges exceeding 100 yards
Or sight in at say 250 to 300 yards and then dial for longer distances.

I wont be using a laser rangefinder ,instead relying on the use of the Mil dots for range estimation and the fact that I pretty well know a lot of the ranges to various landmarks because I grew up hunting here.

I am unfamiliar with using the Mil dots but have been reading about their use and also bought the mil dot master when I bought the scope.

I would appreciate thoughts on the sight in Range
Thanks

Based upon your comments, I would zero at 25 and check zero at 250… you should then be good with a dead on hold out to 300 with 140gr at 2900fps.  I used that with 7mmRemMag for a number of years.

Regardless of bullet chosen, I would sight in at 250 yards. This allows you to hold on hair out to 325 - 350 and you're never more than about 2.5" high at shorter distances, the apex of which occurs at 150 yards. At 400, you'll have around 13" (3 MOA / 1 MILS) come ups; at 500 - around 30 (6 MOA / 1.7 MILS). If you ever plan to really air it out, I would choose 160/162/168 gr bullets due to available BCs over .620.

If you reload, you can easily get 3200 fps at the muzzle with 140's and 3000 fps w/ 160's.
