I just bought a Ruger KP512MKIII pistol. I plan to squirrel hunt with it. I also want to use it just to toss some lead (translation: spend money). I am looking at a Millet red dot or a Burris 1.5-4X20. Which would be better? Or would a fixed power, like a 2X20 Burris be better than the variable? Whatever I put on it is going to have to be pretty durable since it is very likely to get tossed into a backpack and carried to a tree stand along with a bunch of other totally "necessary" crap.
Thanks in advance for the suggestions!

If you aren't part of the solution, then you must be part of the problem.

I like the fixed power--simple ,rugged , good optics and appropriate for the range a 22 should be used for

I would get the Burris for the same reasons Martin suggested. I have a Leupold 2x and it has plenty of magnification for a pistol.

Burris or Leupold 2X. OR consider the Burris 2-7X32; it's a lot better in low light and would give you extra magnification if you wanted to try longer shots.

I have a MKII that I use for squirrels/rabbit hunting and steel targets. I have tried Every thing; red dot, holo, 2x, 2.5, 2-7x, 4x.
What have I found??? If you want to hunt with it stay away from the red dots as they cover to much of the target area, IE the head. 2x power is just about right if you dont plan on shoot much more than 30 yards. Beyond that its not enough power (at least for me). What I have used the most is the 2-7, the only thing I dont like about that set up is the added weight and its balance. I find that I stay at 2-5 power the most. So that leads me to my latest scope a 1.5-4x, I have only used it for one season and so far really like it.
If you are not hunting with it and only shooting 2" to 3" targets or larger a red dot will be fine. I really liked the holo I had BUT because it would not maintain its zero, I had no use for it and got rid of it.
