I acquired a used pair of 8x20 Ultravids in flawless condition recently and was comparing the 2.5 exit pupil to the 5.25 on my Zeiss Victory 8x42 at about 45 minutes before legal shooting light and the difference was like night and day. But I expected that. I also bought a Leupold 8x32 non-HD Gold Ring that has become my football stadium binocs. While hunting this morning and waiting for daylight, I compared the Leupy's 4.0 against my 5.25 Zeiss and the difference was significant.

I didn't think there would be that much of a difference with my old eyes but there was. But was I seeing the actual difference of a 1.25 increase in exit pupil or was part of the brightness due to the premium glass/prisms in the Zeiss Victory?  Thanks.
