I think Angel's Envy is some pretty good bourbon, Brando.

Angels Envy Rye is solid too. I don't consider it heresy, but a rye old fashioned is a thirst quencher on the shores of the Ohio after a long day in the plant. It satisfies far more than a beer.

I haven't tried Angel's Envy Rye, but my favorite high-rye mash bourbon is Basil Hayden's. Bulleit Rye is pretty good too, I think.

A rye based Old Fashioned sounds good! I love Old Fashioned, so I'll have to give that a try.

My updated favorite bourbons list, ranked in order:

1. Eagle Rare 10 YO
2. Buffalo Trace
3. Basil Hayden's
4. Breckinridge
5. Michter's Small Batch
6. Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style
7. Booker's
8. Angel's Envy
9. Four Roses Single Barrel
10. Four Roses Small Batch
11. Bulleit Rye
12. Bulleit
13. Rebecca Creek (a Texas whiskey, not sure if really considered a "bourbon," though has a bourbon-like taste)
14. Maker's Mark

Mrs. BF likes Bulleit Rye, and Old Fashioneds. Don't know if she's tried it with the rye though.

I've been influenced to try different things based on what you guys have said in this very thread way more than I ever have from some "expert" reviewer. I don't consider myself an expert on anything except on what my own tastebuds tell my brain.

Jim Murray no doubt tries a lot of tipple. According to Murray himself, he claims he samples on average 20 whiskies/day:
Damn, that's pretty extreme!

No matter how big a connoisseur he is or how much experience and influence he has, he's just one man, and he cannot taste stuff for someone else. Different people's taste receptors react differently to the multitudes of complex chemical compounds in things we eat and drink.

Yep, I've said repeatedly that everyone's sense of taste is different... one can only relate one's own experiences.  Sometimes, there is an influence from reading other's evaluations... power of suggestion.  I try to never read about a whisky until after making my own assessment.  More often than not, I try to just give a "good", "not so good" rating.  Sometimes I like to compare tastings, but I'm always conscious that full descriptions are double edged swords... sometimes can influence another's perspective, sometimes can serve as a guide.
However, "some whiskeys are REALLY good... some are just not as good as others".

I found a bottle of Angel's Envy in Yuma for $17.95... I didn't buy it because I was leaving the next day and my bag was already overweight.  As it turns out, I got upgraded and could have transported it... win some, lose some.
