Gentlemen. This one is just for fun - or not - since we like to get the most out of our hard earned $$. But Id like to open for the discussion about what is the most hyped up (overrated) scope out there. I know the question might not be perfect - still this could be a fun discussion.
My personal experience comes with Leupold VXIII. They are not bad scopes but for the money I paid I personally feel they should perform much better and be clearer (compared to the competition). On the other hand I got a feeling of money well spent when I bought the Conquest (now I got two of them). But that´s another story.

So Id say the Leupold is the most overrated and hyped up brand name. You?

Thunbs Up on the previous post. Just to play it safe BSA is a very over rated scope when used on anything over a modern rimfire.

If you use an old Weaver K4.....you never get accused of being brainwashed by advertising hype..........and the only people who will think that you have got your head on straight is the old timers who wear bib overalls and milk cows for a living.........

SD, that would be the much anticipated Leupold VX-L aka pooper-scooper.

Yeah the VX-L kind of faded fast into the background.  I think it was a great idea, but the cost was as much as I paid for many of my Kahles and Swaros...

The L, that is right, thanks Roy.  I have only met one guy that has the L with the crescent out of the bottom.  No thanks.

My buddy has one of those.  First time I looked though it I thought it looked okay but didn't seem to have much on my 4200.  Then he told me how much it cost and I about sh*t my pants.  woWza

Countersniper scopes win the "most hyped" award.  At least Leupolds were good long ago, Counternsipers have been pure poop since the first titanium-bodied, zantanium-palatoniam-caoted piece of fecal matter rolled off that chinese assembly line and into marketing infamy.
And with a Countersniper, you can be "tacticool" for less than half the $$ of a Leupold.

Dunno what the most over-hyped scope is, but Swarovski's ads in the 1990's convinced so many shooters that 30mm scopes transmitted more light that a lot of people still believe it.

The Leupold scoop-scope would have to be in there, but like the Swarovski ads the hype apparently worked. They have sold an awful lot of them, mostly Down South.
