Testing one scope against another, out in the field can be tough.  Too many variables, changing conditions, etc.  I've been using a resolution test taget to compare my scopes, such as you find at this website,   http://www.aig-imaging.com/Resolution-Test-Charts.html
I'm not how useful they would be for making a purchasing selection.  You'd pretty much have to buy two or three that you were considering, then take/send back the ones that came out second and third best.  But I suppose if you are looking at spending big bucks on a high end scope, it might be worth it.
Just a thought.

Here's the free printable version I used.  A good printer is probably important.

The USAF 1951 test target is the standard.
You can get one from Edmunds Scientific..good investment, however you can go nuts comparing optics.
Just remember it is a tool, a scope or bino's that you look through and go "Wow" will make you very happy.
Nothing is perfect, it is the viewing experience that is important, if the glass makes you want to go out and look at things then that should be the one you take home or keep.
Good luck and good viewing.

most of the glass in the better scopes is just that --- better, choosing the scope because of the glass is foolishness,  however choosing better glass in a cheap scope can be important because all the rest of the scope is kaka anyway.
