I am overwhelmed with the choices for shooting at longer ranges. I am strickly a hunter and have a custom 300 Win Mag and a 257 Weatherby. What scopes and system for long range shooting would you recommend and why? I am looking at installing a dial system on my Weatherby (only shoot one factory load) And looking at either the TDS or B+C reticle for my 300 Win mag.

I use ballistic/ranging reticles for long-range shooting, and love them. I always establish a system for both windage and elevation as i'm of the opinion that if it's there put it to use (including plex reticle post tips-- the simplest of all ballistic/ranging reticles). Either of those reticles will work well, and no doubt the subtensions r similar since they're ballistic reticles they're subtensions r based on common cartridge trajectories-- Ball. Plex/Nikon BDC, etc. also. The only thing i don't like about the TDS system is that the stadia subtensions r not advertised (though they could be measured easily enuf). I prefer to know exactly what each stadia-stadia gap subtends-- especially for ranging purposes. I've never really understood what the "bowtie" affair is for with the B&C reticle. Maybe to draw the eye toward the center?? The system i apply for ballistic/ranging reticle vertical and horizontal zeroing as well as rangefinding is right here-- www.ottllc.com/specialtypistols/sp20.pdf

I personally prefer the TDS to the B&C reticle.  It's less "busy" than the B&C and it's easy to determine the stadia imcrements with a little practice.
