Thinking of my tax money going to good use, so why not get a new rifle? Been looking real hard at these two for a little bit now, which would you recommend? Please base your statement off quality, reliability, accuracy and price not particularly in that order either. Thanks in advance!

I've never owned or shot the Icon. I have handled a few, and watched a fellow bangin' away with one at the range. They seem well built, and his was very accurate...albeit heavy. On the flip side I've owned (and sold) three Tikka's. One shot very well (T-3 in 25-06), one pretty good but one was less than desirable. Certainly, each will work for the intended purpose. The Tikka's trigger and barrel are usually good. I don't care for the safety or the overall "cheesy" feel of the stock and polymer parts. The supplied rings are crap IMO. It was nice and light though (if that matters).

Id be getting the T/C Icon Classic if I went that route, or the T3 Hunter or Laminate Stainless if I went that route. More into a wood stock, they are so pretty...

I am not sure of price diff,. but think you might get a little more with t/c product. just remember no aftermarket parts for the t/c. at least i can get a stock of some sort for the tikka. i own both and like both imo.   T/C is made in USA

If you had to chose between the two, which one would you keep?

I bought the TC Icon in 30TC couple years ago.  I now own another Icon 30TC and the Venture 223 cal.  EXCELLENT gun, great accuracy.  Out shoots my Rem model 700.  They are not lying about the MOA accuracy guarantee.  had my sited in in 3 shots.  After that next 3 were 5/8" group at 100yds.  2 touching.

highly recommended

the icon classic i've seen are in the 800$ range and the standard wood around 650$. thought i read somewhere that they were dropping price on icons. maybe not selling enough. nice wood on the classic and bedded.  just no other stock manufacture making anything for it.

I don't know about the tikkas, but one thing I really like about the icon is the short bolt lift.  That allows you to run a scope with a big eye piece really low on the gun.  If you have something like a remington, that becomes problematic.

That is one reason I went with a A-bolt for my Swaro Z6.  The Icon was a contender, but I ended up with the Abolt because of the light weight.

Must have missed this post due to hunting season, thus the reason for throwing my .02 so late.  I like the T3's and feel they are very good rifles for the money.  However a couple years ago I bought an Icon Weathershield in 308 Winchester.  It has proven to be very accurate and easy to shoot.  The trigger is not quite as good as the T3 I had but it is very close.  Here is a pic of a 3 shot group shot with Barnes VorTx 168 grain TTSX's.  Rifle shoots 168 grain Sierra MK's almost the same.

A Tikka T3 is set up for someone one on a budget who wants a lightweight(T3 light) out of the box accurate rifle. One of mine out of the box with custom made ammo(Corbon) with their shooter shot .142(100yds) average with four 3 shot groups. A sub-7 pound setup(rifle, rings, scope, sling) running less than $1100.00 is a decent deal.

I have a friend that has a TC Icon classic he loves it.

Really can't go wrong with most rifles these days.
