I'm looking at two different scopes, for a low budget. One's a BSA and the other's a Tasco.

The Tasco is a 6-24x42 Target/Varmint illuminated Mil-Dot
The BSA is a 6.5-20 Panther Duplex Reticle (non-illuminated)

Both are quarter click, parallax adjustable, and all the rest.
I will be shooting at night, however with a spotlight so I'm not sure if illumination will be
a necessity (don't really use it on my 3-9x40)

Which of these do you think I'd be better off with?

Thanks, Much appreciated

I too would go with the Tasco.

Tasco for me too.  I have had that exact Tasco and a couple similar BSA scopes.  IMO the tasco is a much better optic than the BSA.

Given the choice I'd also choose the Tasco.

I thought you might want to look into this scope also.

Not sure if you can get these in your country.

While neither are great scopes, I'd take the Tasco also. I've never used that particular model, but I have used a Tasco and while it wasn't the best scope in the world, it worked fine. I have 2 friends that use pretty much only Tasco's Simmons, and other cheap optics. They both bought a couple of BSA's to try, and they all failed in short order on centerfire rifles. One of them no longer has any, and the other one moved his to .22's after getting them repaired and still uses them. I figure it they were that unhappy with them after using Tasco's and loving them, that I will in no way be happy with a BSA.

Another friend got a BSA fixed 4x as a gift for his .22 and I helped him sight it in. It was decent. We didn't really test the tracking much as he just wanted it sighted in for 15-20 yards to squirrel hunt with in really thick woods. I just kept adjusting until it was sighted in. The glass was clear enough for what it was, but it wasn't anything great by any means. Once we got it sighted in it did hold zero and he squirrel hunted with it for a year. Then, he dropped the rifle and when he picked it up the crosshairs were in an X.  Even had it worked, I found the $30 Tasco I had to be a much better scope, and the fact that it did that the first time he dropped it didn't instill confidence in me.
