I posted this in the rifle scope section and have no comments - maybe being a newbie I posted in the wrong section
I was given an old Tasco 24 x 44 AO fine target dot. Don't have an idea what model # or year of manufacturer.  Has a silver deer or similar image on the turrett housing.  Glass is clear / reticule is crisp and straight. Focus is good.  Problem is that the owner says he could not get it to zero. I set it up using a arbor type bore sighter mounted on a windage adjustabe base.  I had to set the base windage screw full right and the scope's windage turret full also to reach windage center on the collimator. The scope tube does not appear to be kinked or bent as measured with a laser. I do see some left/right movement of the vertical reticule when adjusting the elevation turret. Also, the AO adjustment is grossly off - full infinity to correct parralax at 100 yds.  I was able to zero the scope and it is holding my setting.

I believe the erector was compromised due to turrets turned beyond stops.

Any comments on where to go next would be greatly appreciated. I'm not so interested in using the scope as in gaining knowledge.  Sure hate to see servicable equipment relagated to the trash bin if it can be saved.

Sounds like the scope would be an ongoing problem and frustration even if you did manage to get the scope fixed. I say cut your losses and upgrade your scope. One that comes to mind with close to the same power is the Weaver T series.

Weaver 24x40 T-Series

  • 1/8 Moa clicks
  • 1/8 Moa dot
  • Micro Trac Adjustments. (Definitely an upgrade from the Tasco.)  Any adjustments made to the erector tube for windage is independent of any elevation changes. Therefore, when you change windage, elevation is unaffected and vice versa.

If you do believe the scope is faulty and want to try and get it repaired. You will have to do it through these guys:

I think it's going to be the Tasco World Class Target Scope!  Model # TS24X44DS

-TS bench rest target scope and silhouette scope.

     - extra large 44mm, Fully coated

     -easy grip turrets.

     -Field of view @ 100 yrds 4.5'

-posi trac micrometer finger adjustments windage and elevation

-repeatable 1/8 minute positive click stop

     -1/8 M.O.A Dot

If you are wanting to get this repaired contact Bushnell and they may able to help you out....

If you don't want it, I would look into the scope Brady suggested!!!!

Thanks for the response.

With the information provided, I was able to track down a vendor that offered this scope as a TSG2444 a few years ago.  This scope was built by Asia Optics in 1999 or 2000 and sold in the US by Tasco.

With a bit of research and trial & error, I was able to optically re-center the erector and restore the scope to working condition.  My customer is pleased, both he and I have learned quite a bit about scope do's & don'ts.

BTW my initial recommendation was to replace the Tasco with a Weaver T series if I could not affect a repair, considering his budget and application.

Thank you all for the help.  I set up a Burris Farifield II 4x14 purchased from SWFA on a customer rifle a few months ago.  A very nice scope and his good choice for his application.  He had very good things to say about doing business with y'all and I remembered his comments.  I tried talking him into a Weaver  but!!!

Y'all are geting alot of good comments about customer service and have some very good prices for some of the best products on the market.
