Hi,

I'm a new member to the forum and I'm also new to long range target shooting. I have a Browning A-Bolt Hunter 30.06 which I used years back to hunt deer. I've scrapped the 6x Bushnell scope and I would like to convert the rifle to a longer range target rifle (200-500 yd. target shooting) I've been baffled by all the info on scopes, their prices, and quality or suspected poor quality.

Every road seems to steer me back to the Super Sniper scopes as the best compromise between price and quality. Is this scope all it's cracked up to be? I am also wondering if it would be worthwhile to invest in some Leupold rings and mounts for my new setup. Any feedback or comments are welcome...

Thanks

I recently recieved my SS 16X for my precision rifle. I owned the 10x but wanted just a bit more magnification. These are outstanding scopes for the money. The 16X sits in Tactical Precision System (TPS) rings on a standard weaver style base. This is a sold set up for what I use it for. I have a set of Leupold rings and bases for the 10x.

If you are going to be the casual long range shooter, I think you'll be pleased with a SS. Its got the adjustable objective, its got good clear glass, its got a ton of travel adjustments. I have heard some argue that the adjustments feel "mushy" or you can't hear or feel the "clicks". A bit of vacuum grease on the o ring under the barrel adjuster will cure that quick fast and in a hurry. My 16x is perfect. very audible and positive. I had to apply the grease to my 10x and now is just as good.

The size of the exit pupil makes a difference to some. The 10x is about 4mm and the 16x is 2.6mm. So light transmission is better on the 10 X than the 16x. a lot more forgiving too. But that is the comprimise you make for high magnification scopes.

I hope this helps a bit.

If you still use this rifle to hunt deer with you might be better off with the 10 x  than the 16 x.  The first thing you will notice is that you will really like the target knobs.  I have a Super Sniper 20 x and really think I would be better off with a 10 x most of the time, but for shooting paper targets from a bench it's great. I also have a 10 x leupold Mark 4 M3 and the 10 x power is a fine choice in a fixed power scope.  The Super Sniper is truely rugged. The Leupold is noticably sharper better optics but the Super Sniper is a bargain. As for rings buy the best you can afford. The Leupold rings are nice the Badger Ordnance rings are better and a lot more expensive. I have Leupold rings on everything but would like to have some Badger rings and plus MOA bases.
