Bought a Tasco Big Horn 2.5 -10 50mm AO scope at a sporting goods outlet store.  The optical quality of this scope is very good.  It compares to scopes which I've paid a lot more for.  I've had it mounted on several rifles and have been very happy with it.  I can find no information on this scope.  It must be a long discontuined model.  The box was marked $269 orignal, then down to $109.  I paid $69 since it was the last scope of it's type and the manager wanted to get rid of it.  Presently I have the scope on a SAKO 75 in 300RUM.  I bought a set of 1 inch high SAKO brand rings via a privite party on E-Bay  I reallly like the rings, but they were too high to mount a Petax white tail 4.5-14 50mm scope that I was going to put on the rifle (the Pentax did dot have the elvation range). The Big Horn had the elevation range as does a Tasco World class 4-16 50 mm scope.  I have been told that my 300RUM will destroy a Tasco.  The few times I've had the rifle out I was able to shoot 1" 3 shot groups at 100 yards.  I like the scope, but I am concerned about breaking it.  Maybe I need to go with a scope with more durabality?  Also how can I determine if I will have enough elevation range on the scope I get?  Is there a spec for this.  Thanks for any information.

You are right that 300 RUM will eventually destroy your Tasco scope. Tasco is not exactly known for their quality or durability. I would look into a more durable, better built scope like Leupold, Sightron or Burris. As for elevation range the manufacturer usually list specs for their scopes MOA values on their websites.

Thanks for the input \ information Sniper.  I checked out several web sites and the closest indicator I could figure out was the spec of max adj at 100 yards.  My Pentax white tails unlimited 4.5-14X50 has an adjustment of 40" ( the smallest listed) . Seems like the scope companys that actually had this spec for a variable power in the  50mm scope the typical number was about 50" at 100 yards.  The highest adjustment range I found was with a Zeiss conquest 3-9 X 50MC.  This scope has a range of 75" at 100 yards.  I need to replace my Tasco with a Zeiss.   I will place another post regarding adjustment range, hopefully I can get a list of quality scopes with a large adjustment range.

Most tactical scopes will have extra elevation adjustment, also some scopes that have a 30mm tube with 1" internals...ala Leupold Mark 4 scopes.
