Any thoughts on which one would be better for target shooting and gophers (ground squirrels)? The differences is that the 42 has Mil Dot and 1/4 moa adjustment, while the 44 has a dot reticle and 1/8 moa adjustment. The 44 will cost me about 60% more. Anyone aware of any other differences between these two scopes - different coatings?

Any comments appreciated,

I should have added that the gun will be a .22 LR and max distance of 100 yards or so.

Any thoughts about the Bushnell Banner 6-18x50 AO?

Looks like I could get it for about $140. Not so sure about the Mult-X reticle, especially for target shooting?

I would steer you towards the Swift and Mueller lines that are sold here at SWFA, I don't trust Tasco, and I don't know if the Banner is going to fit the target needs. The Banner is a decent scope but the Swift is a better scope. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the comments. I've been trying to source the Swift and Mueller. SWFA I don't believe will ship to Canada, and I have not had much sucess to date with other places. I can buy the Bushnell locally, and there is a warranty return service in Canada which also provides some comfort. Agree about the reticle, but perhaps that is a compromise I will have to make.

You are correct there, about the Cnada thing, I apologize for not checking to see your residence there my friend. I can't believe you can't find one of these others in Canada. The Bushnell may be your only option, then again I apologize good sir. I do think though that you might do some extensive research and see what you can find, there may yet be some that are close to your price range that would possbly suit your application better. Just don't give in and keep looking bro.

Totally agree ... Tasco has went down hill .... way back when they were pretty descent but alas profit took over quality .

Did Bushnell buy Tasco? I thought Bushnell is a pretty good company.
