Guys, newbie question here.  Can you have both a Hunting Turret and their aftermarket BDC on a zeiss scope?  How does the BDC work?  They seem alike, what is the difference?  Diifferentiate for me please.  Where does the BDC go on the scope.

For $50 per turret, Zeiss will retro-fit your hunting-turret scope with target turrets.  They simply remove the old and slap on a new, non-capped, target turret.  The turret is marked in MOA.

A BDC is nothing more than a turret, specific to your bullet and velocity, where the standard MOA turret was; and, rather than having graduations of numbers of MOA, it has ranges corresponing to number of clicks to that range.

For example, my .308 with Black Hills BTHP 175-gr Sierra matchkings takes 8 clicks to go from a dead-center 100-yard shot to a dead-center 200-yard shot.  With my Nightforce, I click in 8 clicks corresponding to 2 MOA.  Were that a BDC, the zero would be "0" and I would click in 8 clicks till my refernence line aligned with the "200".  It's very simple. With a BDC, no need to worry about where zero is, did you add in or take out, do you know where you are.  The scale is a definitive number.

Several scope companies make scopes with pre-installed BDC's but they aren't always accurate.  I get mine from Kenton Industries.  he will match your exact projectile, velocity, altitude, mean temp, and scope make.  Or, you can send him your data tables and he will make a custom BDC.

Hope that clarifies.  Personally, I really like BDC's - so long as they are accurate.  I own a few and recently sent my newest Zeiss in to get turrets so I could install a BDC.  I only had the elevation turret upgraded, wind is a little simpler to handle.  Especially with a Wind Swag.

And, in closing, if you are too lazy or too cheap (as I am on some things) to work your own data tables, there is a product online called ballisticards where they have done all (or most) of the work for you.  I own a few of those and have found them to be very good, +/- a click or 2 out to 600 yards.

Thank you very much.  You put the whole equation together for me.  I am going to do the whole "kenton" BDC as well.  I understand if you buy the Zeiss scopes with Target Turrets, all you need to get is the BDC.

Thanks again.
