My rifle is a Remington Varmint rifle that I have had re barrled with a Krieger barrel and chambered for 22-250 AI. I have a tasco world class 10-40X50 scope and a TruGlo 8-32X44 scope. I don't think I will see the potential of this rifle using either of these scopes. I cannot afford $1,000.00 or more for a scope. I want at least a 32 X scope. I have done some research and come up with the Burris Signature Select 8-32X44 scope for $516.00 from SWFA. I think this scope will get me that 1/8" five shot group. I will appreciate opinions in regared to the Burris scope or another scope in the $500.00 range.   Thanks    Norman

Have you looked at a fixed power Weaver?  You are eating up a lot scope money by having variable power.

I belive there are a couple of critieras that make one scope better than another.  First and foremost is the glass.  The diference is glass is night and day with polished optical glass being the norm in lower priced scopes and shot or cut glass in higher priced ones.  The later transmit far more light than the optical glass.  The Super Sniper has optical glass and a Zeiss has shot or cut glass.  Light trasmission on the super sniper is most likely in the mid eighty percent range and the Zeiss is up in the very high nintys.  This is fine for the super sniper as is is rarely shot at dark and fine for the zeiss as it is generally used for hunting and the best hunting is many times at the poorest light.   Second holding a register.  In a sniper/tac/target scope that is constantly  being reajusted for ranges it is paramont that the scope returns to zero everytime without deviation.  A few less expensive scope have this reputation ei the Bushnell 3200 series with target knob and the super sniper.  Target scopes range for very inexpensive  to very expensive ie the Premier or Bender.  Good luck.. DDB

DDB,

Schott is the brand of glass the Zeiss uses.  They make everything from glass counter tops to optical glass grade glass.

1/8" 5-shot groups?  At 100 yards?  Consistently?

I think you might find that better glass quality will help more than additional magnification.  32x is allot o' magnification; you better get a good scope if you want 32X to look nice, you know now what 32 looks like with not-good glass.

Pretty tough to beat a Weaver T-36X scope for the money. Many guys use them for our matches in which we shoot 100, 300, and 500 yards in the same day.

That rig should shoot 1/4 inch groups @ 100 yards with any decent scope on it.  If your not getting good groups I'd look at other things than just scopes.  Just my opinion.
