New to the site and after some knowledge. Trying to decide if it is worth putting Target knobs on a 3-9x40 conquest. The scope would be going on my 6mm remington. The purpose of the scope is to take me out to 6-700 yrds for coyotes and in general fill my desire to start shooting at longer ranges; paper - gongs ect. I realise the 4.5-14x44 would get me there and more but it has a much bigger profile and I'm trying to keep the rig reasonably light to pack as I will be doing some walking when I'm chasing critters. Any opinions on how you think this set up would work would be appreciated. I have 2 of these scopes now so it could be a more economical introduction into the dailing in set up. What reticles would you reccomend? I'm thinking #4 or Z600?

Thanks.

Ok. It looked to me that the Z-Plex was a little coarser than the #4. I will look at them again. I do have the z-plex and the Z600 so I'm not sure it would be worth the $140 to change the reticle. I'm Canadian and the people up hear just quoted me $140 for a reticle change. Prices jumped $40 dollars this week.

I have shot a 10" steel gong out to 700 with a 9x Redfield Widefield (late 70's model) and done ok. Hits were only about 50%, but I was not dialing shots, just holding WAY over. (.22-250) While the 4.5-14 would be a little friendlier for small coyote sized critters, it can be done. If you have access to shoot that far, set up some targets of appropriate size at that range, and scope them out.

Thanks for the responce trigger. I think I'll give it a try with the 3-9x40. I'll get one of Kenton Industries speed dail systems to top it and it should turn out to be a nice, reasonably light scope to serve my purpose. The other scope that makes sense is the vx-3 4.5-14x40 but I would think the zeiss would be much clearer and may be more effective than the higher powered Leupold? I'm not sure but it would be nice to get some feedback from someone that has been dailing in 9-10x40 scope to see how they like it.
