    Posted: August/14/2015 at 04:51

I recently got some new Talley Signature Series bases and rings from SWFA and thought I would post up a few pictures of them mounted on my Remington Custom Shop African Plains Rifle. I absolutely love the look of the Signature Series bases and was not even aware they made such a nicely sculpted base. I was set to have a custom set of bases made until I came across pictures of these Talley made bases. As always, a big shout out to the fine folks at SWFA for their excellent customer service and super fast shipping. You have a life long customer here ! ! !

300 Win Mag. The Plains Rifle is only offered in mag calibers. I need a 300 WM like I need a second arse hole, but I just really liked the looks of that rifle when Remington came out with it. I bought it a long time ago (mid 90's IIRC) and they were about half what they cost today. I had the CS guys install a 40X barrel and trigger on it and it has a SS action underneath the Black-T finish. The rings and bases will come off and be sent to W.E. Birdsong for the Black-T finish as well.

The stock looks almost identical to my 7MS mine might be a hair darker. RD has a 7MS also.

I got my 7MS the first year they were available. At the time a friend was the Remington Rep in my area and I got it at his sample price.

I have a customer in Ilion who was buddies with the Custom Shop Foreman and he got me a tour of the shop. Pretty near tour.

My brother has that same Remington model, Africa Plains Rifle, chambered in .300 UM.  Thunbs Up

I had no idea Talley had that series too, they must have come out with it in the last year or so. Their web site is much improved as well.

I still like horizontal split rings a bit better.

Yep, Horizontal splits strike me as the stronger superior design...

I'm not sure of that. Maybe Ted can elaborate.

I'm not sure either.... it just seems to me that screws doing double time, clamping to base and scope wouldn't be as strong as screws performing ione function.  Also that design would be extremely un-forgiving about loose hardware.... IMO anyway... Break Dance

The lower screw just clamps to the base and is a large screw at that. The upper screw just tightens the top half of the ring which has a slight amount of flex in it to hold the scope in place. The bottom screw is about 4 times the size of a standard 6-48 screw used in other systems.

Wasn't aware of the larger bottom screw.  That would most definitely make a huge difference in strength!  I've always liked the look of the top n bottom split style rings versus the right left split ones anyway...

Talley to my knowledge, abbreviated as it is, has never cut any corners...
