Can you be a little more specific about what kind of tactical match?

Such as a bolt action rifle tactical match. With a theme like precision shooting under exertion (quickly moving into a specific position to shoot from). I have never participated in a match but arent there different themes during the day?

I have shot a couple of "tactical" matches. And for the matches I shoot, it is all about follow through and the timed second shot.
The reason I say this is, for the match I shoot, we have to engage each target twice. After the first shot, you have 10 seconds to run the action, correct for a miss, a fire again. We also usually have 5 targets per stage, and a total of 5 minutes to engage all 5. All targets are at varying ranges, and must be engaged in a preset order (vs. closest to furthest).
So my choice of barrel contour is going to be what ever you are comfortable with. Shorter, thicker barrels tend to be more repeatable. But not all calibers are as effective with "short" barrels.
Basically what I am saying is, it depends on the match you are shooting. The caliber you are shooting. And the ranges you are shooting...

So then it would be essential to have a few different rifles? I actually ordered a light palma contour 308 11.25 twist from Bartlein. I hope it was the right choice, I dont think its too late to change the order (wait time is 6-8 months but im in no rush). I was looking for something a little lighter than my Remington varmint barrel. I wonder if it would heat up any faster because its a smaller diameter barrel made out of stainless steel vs chromoly.

With a quality barrel it matters less. Are you having it threaded for a brake? I would definitely recommend a brake, better yet would be a suppressor. But they are really expensive.
As far as different rifles go, yes, in a perfect world you could grab the tool that best fit the job. I can't do that. As far as that goes, my 14lbs tac rifle is also my hunting rifle.
And honestly, all things considered, unless you are competing in caliber specific matches, I would choose something other than 308... I shoot a 300 wsm. That being said, the next barrel I buy for my Savage will probably be 260 Remington.

Im not planning on having the barrel threaded for anything, although it would be nice. Why would I want a suppressor vs a brake? I know a brake reduces recoil and I dont plan on shooting subsonic ammo. Does a suppressor do other things as well?

With a 308, I doubt I would be excluded from any matches and it can double as my hunting rifle. The barrel life is good and the recoil is moderate as well. Like you said, in a perfect world it would be nice to have a few different caliber precision rifles lying around, I just thought the 308 was a good all around caliber.

If you think about it, a suppressor catches all the ejecting gases, versus just re-directing them as brake does. Even with full power loads, a suppressor is a much more effective "brake" than almost all brakes. And they are quiet Bucky. A suppressor is another thing on my "to get" list.
The 308 is still a great round, but IMHO, it is outclassed, especially if you are shooting over 600 yards regularly. The  260 loaded with a 140gr bullet runs with a 300 WM pushing 190 MK's, and it's better than the 300 in the wind... It smokes a 308. The 308 is probably a better hunting round though.

I never knew a suppressor reduced recoil, thats interesting. Maybe one day ill have one of those 6PPC or 6.5-.284 calibers.

Good luck to you, friend. The barrel contour that you have chosen will do well I think.
Have you had the opportunity to check out the monthly match at Desert Sportsman's? There are a lot of very knowledgeable shooters there... The next match is in July, check out Sniper's Hide for the date.
