Picked up a T/C Icon Weathershield in 308 Winchester the other day. I really like the look and feel of the gun, however it has a problem. After you fire a round, you about have to beat the bolt back to extract the case. The bolt lifts normal....just is extremely hard to pull back. After inspecting the cases, they have a small "gouge" in them just below the rim. Tried Winchester and Federal factory 150 grain loads with the exact same results.

I called T/C Customer service at 7:55 am yesterday morning and was actually suprised someone answered before the "official" opening time. The C/S rep listened to my problem then put me on hold to go speak with a gunsmith. She came back within 3 minutes and told me to send the rifle back with an attention to "John" we'll say. I was then told I would be reimbursed for shipping and they would make me happy....whatever that means.

My gun shop is taking care of shipping it back for me.  It was shipped back to T/C on Tuesday so it should be there by today.   I will be happy if a properly working Icon is back in my hands by September 1st.

I've had several T/C muzzleloaders(currently use an Omega and a White Mtn Carbine) and they have always been excellent shooters and have been fine from the get go.  I'm anxious to see what they do to the rifle.

Here is a pic of 3 of the fired cases:

I'm sure they will fix it and make you happy like they said.  Just keep us posted cause I'm sure we all would like to know how quick and how "happy" they make you.

What do the primers look like.  That brass has quite an expansion ring around it where it was catching.

A local gunshop had them on sale for $550......after the rebate I will only have $400 in the gun.  They sold out a week.

The rounds chamber slick as a whistle.

A little update on the Icon.  Rifle was shipped out Monday afternoon(8-2-10) and T/C received signed for it on Thursday(8-5-10).  I will keep everyone posted as to what goes on.

So you shipped it over a week ago and didn't talk to them until yesterday?

After I posted that I realised it did not make sense but for some reason I'm not allowed to edit my own posts.   So here is what happened.  I spoke to them Monday(August 9 th), shipped the rifle the same afternoon and they received it Thursday(Aug 12th)....as in yesterday.  Comprende? Big Grin  Actually with T/C you do not have to call them before you send a rifle back.  You just have to write a letter describing your problem(s).

Looks like a bad chamber cut. Aggravating I'm sure, but they will make it right.

Most people who looked at the fired cases in person said the same thing as you.  Would this be something that could be fixed or does it require replacing the barrel?  Several people have told me T/C will likey just replace the barrel.  Their reasoning is once they test it and see what it's doing, rebarreling will be the quickest and easiest fix?

I have a Thompson Icon. Mine is a limited edition weathershield, "realwood"  7mm-08. Its a real tack driver. I had a problem last year with a brand new (and expensive) FN AR. The parkerized finish on the barrel wasnt applied correctly, you could wipe it off with a rag. Sent it back to Fn. I wanted them to send me a new rifle. They wouldnt do it. They wanted to remove the barrel, send it out for refinishing, re install it and then send it back. Went to my local gunstore where I had purchased it and they made good on the whole deal. I didnt want another FN, so I ended up with an Armalite Ar10 and some goodies. My point is, you paid good money for that rifle and Thompson should put you back in action as quickly as possible. Interested to hear the outcome.
