Bought this originally for a 300 Blackout but now I’m building a 458 SOCOM and worry about durability.

Anyone know if the 1-6x24 will hold up to the energy from this caliber?

Thanks,

Bary

The SS scopes are designed to withstand .50 BMG, and do so very well.  458 SOCOM is not nearly that heavy a banger.

I am almost done building my 458 SOCOM and plan to put the 1-6x24 SS on it.  I fully expect it to hold up, but if it does not I will post it here.

458 SOCOM recoil is on the order of a hot loaded 308.  The SS 1-6 is not going to blink.  The SOCOM was designed to break through windshields while maintaining trajectory and knock people down on the pointy end...

I've never fired the SOCOM.  I was told that the recoil is more similar to the 12ga shotgun, but I will not know until mine is ready.

Still, I do not think the SS 1-6x24 will be phased by it.

There are some loads you can "create" that may approach that, but I've not experienced anything like that at all.  Approx 7lb rifle is a pretty easy shooter... even rapid fire.  300gr solid at something like 2200fps is my "experience".

I've got some ammo for it with 350gr bullets loaded for about 1650fps sitting around.  I do not think I have ever seen a 458SOCOM load that send a 300gr bullet out at 2200fps.  That sounds like it would be well beyond safe pressures.

I do plan to load for it and my primary interest is with heavy projectiles (don't ask me why), so I've got some 500 grainers to play with.  I might also experiment with heavy bullet subsonic loads though.
