I got the idea of long range shooting. So I looked at my gun inventory and I remembered that my AR15 (carbine)has a 1/8 twist which is good for shooting heavy bullets which equals longer range and all that. I looked at Swfa SS scopes and was immediately sold. But then I realized that the scope is 14 inches. I got out a ruler and thought it was a close call and wanted to know if this has been done. My concern is that it will contact the front sight post. I emailed swfa and they said it wouldn't touch it, But I would like a little more input be for purchasing and mounting it. This would be used for 100-600 yards as I am just start in to the long range world of shooting. I would appreciate all of your opinions.

The closest pic is the Classic 10x model, it is the same size as the 6x.  16" barrel midlength float tube.  You can see it doesnot hit my fold down site.

Since mine is a carbine length tube and your is a middy, Im guessing it would fit but it might be to close. My other option would be a 2-7x.

I guess the SS isn't gonna work. You guys have any recommendations that might work for my application?

I have ran a SS 16X on a carbine upper during load development once.  Not a problem with contacting my front site post.  The upper was a CMMG 300blk upper 16" barrel.  you will have no issues if you want to go with a SS scope on your AR.

If that's a carbine length AR then that seems like a great choice. Its also a inch shorter than the fixed powers. On your last post did you say that "I must remove the front sight" in order to use the fixed 6x?
It seems like I'm better off getting a nice scope instead of buy a ok scope now and spending more in the future.

Sorry about that SVT, I didn't see your post.
Nice to see that someone's done it. Makes me feel a lot better before ordering. Now all I have to do is choose between the 6x and the 3-9. Also what mount were you running with that setup SVT? I was planning just getting the S.S.A.L.T mount since it comes with 1"/30mm inserts.

Here's a picture of a SS 3-9 mounted using a GG&G FLT mount on my carbine length S&W MP15. With the fold down sight in the folded position up front, you get a totally unobstructed view.

Currently I'm running a SS 1-6 in the same mount. Another option that would work is the new SS 3-15 if you want that much magnification.

I was using a SSALT mount with the 16X at that time.  You are good to go.
