New here to the forum,
building a new build and just as the subject states what would be the better option. I plan to shoot out past 1000 yards. Is the glass that much better in the HD model over the standard? I wish they made a straight 12x in the HD. |

The HD glass wise is a big improvement. Turrets are better as well. Overall, it is just a flat out better scope.
IMO if you can spend the extra money, (which is a lot) I would pick the HD. Glass quality always trumps magnification. the extra 2x will not matter. But if you have a $300 budget, the classic series are good scopes. I ran my 10x with side focus through 3 4 day precision rifle classes. It tracked true and never had a single issue. I ran it on at least 5 different rifles with many rounds and it always worked. My 10x HD went through several 4 day classes as well. It just does everything a bit better as it should. |

Thanks. I like the 5x20 HD but for what i want to do i think that fixed power would work fine. Eventually on another build i will probably get that 5x20HD.

I wish they made a straight 16x in the HD. I have a SS 16 and like it a lot, Had a 20x but like the 16X is much better, never had the 12, have had every version of the 10x, still have the 6x both versions, have both versions of th 3-9 it is a fantastic value same style knobs as the HD single screw in the top. Yes the HD scope is exceptionally nice, having said that I traded mine in to get the 5-20x50 HD If I could put a 5-20 HD on every rifle I have I would do so.
