Hi, I'm a new member here although i've been reading these forums for quite a few years.  I'm trying to decide between the SS 3-15x42 FFP and the HD 3-9x42.   I have two of the Fixed 12's MQ/mil for designated long range rifles but need a scope for a previous LR rifle (sporter) that had one 12x before but will now be a hunting rifle 70% of the time and LR 30% of the time.

I understand that the HD glass is in a different league than the fixed power non HD models. Although i have never looked through one.   How does the glass compare on the 3-15 to the other classic series scopes?  I keep thinking that i would enjoy more power with the 3-15 for this dual purpose rifle but the HD option is tough to dismiss cause i do appreciate quality glass.

I guess i should include my "idea" of long range.  Anywhere from 750 to 1k yards.

The SS 3-15 has a heaver reticle, to my eyes it is easier to make out in lower light conditions than the SS 3-9. The glass on the SS 3-9 is higher quality.

Need to follow the rules. Just hard to determine which set of rules to follow
Now the rules have changed again.

Welcome to Optics Talk.

I'd highly consider the 3-9x SS for your applications, especially in regards to hunting.
If at first you don't secede...try..try again.

Can someone compare the glass quality on the regular ss and the ss HD to some name brand scopes? I'm considering buying a 3-15x42 on their black friday sale. I've never looked through one and would be buying sight unseen.
