I'm not certain that this is the right spot to post this topic in this forum. I'm hopeful that someone will move it to the appropriate place if need be.

I've lurked on this forum from time to time for information and real-world background on products, and I appreciate the insights that you all provide. To be honest, I registered as a user on this forum just so that I could share this story with you.

The expected disclaimers should be given at this point: I'm not an owner/employee/creditor/stalker of SWFA. I bought a spotting scope there. That's my sole connection - as a customer. What I wanted to share, and why I took the step of registering as a user, is the point of this post -- and why I will always be a customer of SWFA.

Back in July (yes, it has taken me a while to get this posted) I bought a spotting scope from SWFA. A very nice spotting scope with a price four figures in front of the $.00. Because I knew exactly what spotting scope I wanted, I had shopped online for quite some time, at many sites, looking for the best price. Trust me: A $50 price differential would have made all the difference in the world. I didn't find much more than a free shipping difference for the product that I wanted. I finally settled on SWFA for several reasons, the primary one being that I occasionally travel past the SWFA brick-and-mortar shop when I'm in the area. Thus, I could stop by and see the scope before I put my money into an order and therefore be assured that I wasn't buying a refurbished scope or something that someone else had already dropped and scuffed (if that happens, I'd rather it to have been my own fault). Although I'd seen the "110 percent price guarantee" on the SWFA site, that wasn't what sold me. I figured that was "just another price guarantee".

So, after confirming by phone that the scope was available, I stopped by to pick it up. My theory being that the price on anything that costs more than $1000 is negotiable, I asked whether there were any of the usual discounts available. There weren't. I was happy enough with the price, so I paid and left.

Not two days later, I got an ad by email from a competitor of SWFA. The competitor offered the exact same model of scope for a price nearly $500 less than what I'd paid for mine. I thought it was a fluke, that no one could afford to sell that scope for that price. No seller that I had found had offered a price anything near that. Moreover, you can imagine that I wasn't thrilled to get that ad two days too late. I'd already bought and paid for mine. It was too late to do anything about it, right? The 110 percent price guarantee wouldn't do me any good at that point, or so I thought.

Nonetheless, I confirmed with the competitor that we were talking about the same product, same model number, same accessories, same-same, and that it was indeed available and ready for immediate delivery. Yes, it was. I sent that information to SWFA through it's 110 percent price guarantee link. I figured that I'd never hear back.

Well, I did hear back. I heard back to the effect that I was going to receive a refund of 110 percent of the difference in price. I heard back that the refund would be posted to my account within a day. And it was.

I was astounded. I'm still astounded. Not only was that a huge refund -- I'd already bought the scope. We're not talking about a price match, or "I can beat that price by 10%" before the deal is ever made. We're talking about customer service after my money was already gone. That, my friends, is more than fair dealing.

I don't think I need to expand much on my story. It speaks for itself. This is just an FYI, something to consider if you're in the market for firearm optics. For me, I'll never buy anyplace else.
