Hi,

About a month ago I purchased a SWFA 5-20X50 its the first time I've had a scope like this.  But I am having some trouble with getting the reticle focused.  I followed the instructions using a patch of blue sky got the reticle nice and sharp.  Then when I put the reticle on the target its blurry and hard to make out.  I also adjusted the parallax according to the instructions.  Seeing as this is my first scope like this it is very possible that I missed something or even over adjusted the parallax.  Any suggestions into what I should try to fix this would be great.  Thank you!

did you try re-focusing the reticle once you were on the target?

Could you give us the details on what you did? It is hard to help without knowing exactly what you did. But a couple of thoughts. When you adjusted the diopter to focus the reticle was the parallax set to infinity and did you focus the reticle and look away for awhile and then check it again?

BTW nice scope and welcome to the OT.

I'm not 100% certain but I think the parallax was set to infinity. I used a snow covered mount about 50 yards from my location to focus in the reticle. But I did increase the magnification to its highest setting when I did this. I then I used the parallax adjustment turret to adjust the parallax moving my head up and down until I got the reticle to not bounce. I could try to refocus and take more time in between checking the reticle pattern. I tried to follow the directions that SWFA sent me but they seemed a bit lacking. If you guys have a method that you use with good results I'm all ears.

You set the scope to max magnification, set the parallax to infinity, and focused on something 50 yards away:  I think I know the problem!

Try using a clear, blue sky with all the same settings as before, not an object with definition.  Focus the reticle with clear sky, max power, and parallax on infinity.  If you do it right, you should not ever again need to touch the focus ring - at least not till your prescription changes.

Hope that helps.

What he said.

You need to find something uniform to look at that is as far as possible.  Looking at the blue sky is perfect.

Its not that I set the parallax to infinity it was set there from the factory but I did not change it.  Now that you guys bring that to my attention I'm having a "dang it" moment.  Thx for the tip I will give it a shot and get back with you guys to let you know how it turned out.
